Repair of a Senseo

Broken hinge

Senseo machines are quite sturdy and long lasting, but the plastic exterior in this case was broken in the hinge part, connecting the cap with the main body.

Another issue, common in the Senseo machines, was the rusting of the floaters in the tank, resulting in the machine never detecting the water level, always indicated as empty.

To fix the hinge, I made two holes in the existing pins and the corrisponding holes in the main body.

I broke the inner reinforcement walls to make space.

I inserted a thin steel bar along the new holes.

The bar reduces the space available, so I had to remove part of the insulating rubber around the water hose.

Since I was there, I also glued small magnets on the hall sensors indicating the water level, and I removed the floaters from the tank. The tank must be manually checked to avoid emptying it and damaging the heater, so I marked the tank, also with information about the different cup volumes.
